Serving Every Faith & Cultural Tradition

Traditional funeral services look different for every family, and at Fluehr we are experienced in the customs and requirements of many faiths and cultures. We work regularly with the Catholic parishes of Northeast Philadelphia – including those serving Irish, Italian, Polish, and Latino communities – as well as with Ukrainian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, and other Eastern European Christian congregations. We are also experienced in coordinating services across Protestant denominations, non-denominational Christian traditions, and interfaith services.  If your family observes specific religious customs – particular prayers, music, rites, timing, or dressing traditions – our team will listen carefully and ensure every detail is honored. We have longstanding relationships with clergy and officiants across many traditions throughout the Northeast Philadelphia area.

What a Traditional Service Includes

A traditional funeral service at John F. Fluehr & Sons typically begins with a visitation or viewing, held at our Cottman Avenue funeral home, where family and friends can gather, offer condolences, and spend quiet time with their loved one. The funeral service follows – whether in our chapel, at a local church, or another meaningful setting. The service may include readings, prayers, music, and personal reflections chosen by your family. Following the service, we coordinate the funeral procession to the cemetery of your choice, where a graveside committal service takes place.
Throughout, our staff handles every logistical detail – filing the death certificate, coordinating with clergy or officiants, arranging transportation, preparing the obituary, and providing personalized memorial stationery – so your family can focus entirely on being together.

Veteran Services

John F. Fluehr & Sons is honored to serve the veterans and active-duty families of Northeast Philadelphia. We coordinate military honors, assist with VA paperwork and burial benefits, and ensure that every veteran’s service reflects the honor and sacrifice they deserve. Northeast Philadelphia has one of the largest concentrations of veterans in the city, and this community’s service members will always receive our deepest respect and attention.
